As the name suggests, this diet is relatively low in carbohydrates while high in fats and protein. The basic principle of this diet is that the excess amount of carbohydrates accumulate in the organs around the stomach, causing the accumulation of fats in them, which leads to stomach upset. Therefore, a low-carb diet normalizes the amount of sugar and cholesterol by reducing the storage of fats and thus blood pressure also becomes quite normal. These benefits reduce the risk of diabetes, heart disease, osteoporosis, and obesity in people as a whole.

The use of protein and fats in this diet further reduces the storage of fats. However, excessive consumption of carbohydrates and lack of vitamins and minerals can lead to bone, digestive and immune problems. Consuming less than 20 grams of carbohydrates a day causes a process in our body called ketosis. In this process, fats are used for energy in the absence of glucose. This process may be helpful, but fear is not the best thing, as it can cause nausea, headaches, fatigue, indigestion, and consequently diarrhea and constipation.
